AUSTRALIAN OPEN OTT INTERFACE

2014

Australian Open 2014 is a DIRECTV Sports App on set-top box. The interface was to showcase live tennis matches, live scores, scheduled matches, completed matches, player biography and ability to record or watch the match.

DESIGN CHALLENGE

The challenge for this project was to overhaul an aging sports app within an agile process. This design direction will then be taken to other sports app experiences such as soccer, football, etc.

THE INTERFACE

The interface that I was working on had 3 different layers: looped video, web layer and live television layer.

MENU

On the web layer, I’ve introducing a more recognizable hamburger iconography to illustrate the menu to access all the different sections of the app.

HIGHLIGHT PANEL

Below the menu highlights a match that already have happened with a check mark on a winner. Right below this is the most popularly retweeted snippet to bring social engagement.

MENU ITEMS

Selecting the menu, users will be shown Live Scoreboard, Completed Matches, Scheduled Matches and Draws. On selecting any of these items, they will be taken to their respective panel of information.

LIVE SCOREBOARD

The Live Scoreboard lists all the games that are currently playing and were finished. The scores that populate this panel will also appear above or below live games that users will see on the right side of the interface. The scores data will be updated with a few seconds delay.

The yellow dot indicates the player currently serving. A check mark indicates the winner.

With the remote’s D-pad, users will be able to tap up and down to navigate the Live Scoreboard. They will be able to select the highlighted game that will take them to Match Detail.

MATCH DETAIL

The Match Detail will showcase the same game data with additional functionalities such as, Watch Now, Record Match and Player Bio.

By selecting Watch Now, users will be taken to the channel where the match is happening.

Record Match will take users into the BAU flow of recording shows on DIRECTV.

Player Bio will change this panel to show the list of players where users will be able to select one to view more about each player.

PLAYER BIO

This panel will showcase more information about each player.
